Job summary

Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT seeks an EMT/Medical Assistant to assist the Emergency Department team. You will prepare exam areas, take vital signs, perform phlebotomy and EKGs, and communicate patient status with nurses and ED providers to ensure timely care.

Required: EMT or Medical Assistant certification, or nursing student, CPR certification. Minimum: one year ED experience or direct patient care. Strong teamwork and the ability to function under pressure are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Current EMT, or Medical Assistant certification, or Nursing student
• CPR certification required
• Minimum: one year ED experience or direct patient care experience

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation of the treatment area and maintains stock and supplies
• Prepares patients for exam, positions for comfort and applies monitoring devices
• Performs vital signs, I&O, EKGs, bladder scans, phlebotomy and related tasks
• Works with RN and ED providers as part of the team in the pod
• Places patients on monitors and assists with trauma and critical care as directed
• Conducts hourly rounding and communicates status to patients and families
• Documents care interactions and task completion
• Transports patients to testing and inpatient units
• Completes mandatory continuing education and attends staff meetings
