Job summary

McLaren Health is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to support ED nursing and medical staff with patient care and clerical tasks. Under direct supervision, you will perform essential patient care activities.

Responsibilities include assisting with procedures, preparing rooms, inventory, specimen transport, admissions/discharges, and recording observations in the medical record. BLS required; EMT/MA/CNA or nursing student rotation completed preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months patient care experience or completion of the US Armed Services medic program.
• EMT/Paramedic/MA/CNA certification or nursing student after first Med/Surg rotation.
• BLS certification.
• ACLS certification (preferred).
• ED experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care to ED patients under supervision.
• Inventory and restock ED equipment.
• Collect and transport specimens (urine, blood, cultures).
• Assist with admissions, discharges, IV lines, and room prep.
• Place patients on monitors, provide wound care, and assist with procedures.
• Record observations in the patient medical record.
• Communicate patient care needs and changes to nursing staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• 1. Provides direct and indirect patient care, assisting nursing and physician staff with patient care procedures.
• 2. Inventories and restocks emergency department equipment.
• 3. Collects and transports specimens such as urine, blood, and cultures.
• 4. Assists with the admission and discharge of patients, initiates and discontinues intravenous lines, cleans and prepares examination room between patients.
• 5. Places patients on monitors, provides wound care, assists with orthopedic procedures and other emergency room procedures as requested.
• 6. Reports and records observations in the patient medical record.
• 7. Reports patient care needs and changes in condition to the nursing staff.
• 8. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months patient care experience in a health care delivery setting OR completion of the US Armed Services medic program.
• Certification as an emergency medical technician (EMT), paramedic, medical assistant (MA), or certified nursing assistant (CNA) OR currently enrolled Nursing student who has completed their first Med/Surg rotation
• BLS certification.

Preferred

• ACLS certification
• Previous experience working in an Emergency Department
