Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Cedar Rapids seeks an ED support technician to assist in non-invasive clinical tasks under RN/physician supervision. You will help with vital signs, transport, patient hygiene, equipment setup and environment cleanliness to ensure patient safety and smooth care delivery.

Responsibilities include accurate vital sign collection, EMR documentation, EKGs, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to support individualized care plans in a fast-paced emergency department.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience preferred.
  • EMT-B certification is required/accepted.
  • BLS certification through AHA preferred/required within 30 days.
  • CPI certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • MOAB training required within 90 days.
  • Mandatory Reporter Training (Child/Dependent Abuse) as applicable.
  • EMT-B certification accepted from IA/IL/WI.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with RNs and care team to support care plans and improve patient outcomes.
  • Accurately obtain, monitor, and document vital signs and clinical data in the EMR.
  • Deliver non-invasive clinical and clerical support in the ED under RN/physician direction.
  • Perform EKGs, assist with patient transport, and support activities of daily living.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical equipment and treatment areas.
  • Document processes precisely and timely in the EMR per regulatory standards.
  • Promote a safe, clean care environment following infection prevention protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with good judgment.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and patient-centered care.

Education

High school diploma or GED
1 year clinical experience (preferred)
EMT-B certification
BLS certification
CPI certification
MOAB training
Mandatory Reporter Training: Child Abuse/Dependent Adult (IA/IL)
EMT-B certification accepted from IA/IL/WI

Overview

Responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of basic, non-invasive clinical and clerical support in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and physicians. Plays an important role in patient care by assisting with vital signs, transport, patient hygiene, equipment setup, and environmental cleanliness to ensure a safe and efficient care environment. Reports and records observations and contribute to the efficient functionality of the department.

  • Deliver non-invasive clinical and clerical support within the Emergency Department under RN and physician direction
  • Perform EKGs,assistwith patient transport, and support activities of daily living while ensuring patient comfort and dignity
  • Prepare,maintain, and ensure proper functioning of clinical equipment and treatment areas
  • Maintain precise,timelydocumentation in the electronic health recordin accordance withregulatory standards
  • Promote a safe, clean, and compliant care environment following infection prevention and safety protocols
  • Effective clinical communication and strong interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with sound judgment
  • High attention to detail with strong clinical documentation practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and service excellence
Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience:

  • At least one year of clinical experience-Preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Required (Upon Hire or Preferred):
    • Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) certification
      • Accepted from: Iowa Department of Public Health (IADPH), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), or Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WI DHS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)(preferred upon hire;requiredwithin 30 days)
  • Required Within 90 Days of Hire:
    • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
    • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training
    • Mandatory Reporter Training (as applicable to state of practice):
      • Child Abuse Reporting (IA and/or IL)
      • Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting (IA and/or IL)
