Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED (or near completion of Health Sciences program).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
• De-escalation training completed during unit orientation.

Responsibilities

• Direct and continuous observation of patient within arm’s length.
• Participate in patient rounds as directed by the RN.
• Ensure environmental safety for patient.
• Answer call lights and route patient care issues to the RN.
• Restock department supplies and precautions stations.
• Transport patients within the department and to other locations as needed.
• Clean patient equipment following the designated process.
• Complete patient safety sitter competency and required documentation.
• Communicate changes in patient behavior to the RN.
• Assist with unit quality improvement activities and respect patient cultural beliefs, using interpreter services when needed.
