Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health in Massachusetts is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to join the team. Under supervision of the Nurse Manager, you will provide direct observation of patients, assist with rounds, and ensure environmental safety while supporting licensed staff.

This role requires a High School diploma or GED and Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire. The position is 24 hours per week on 3pm–11:30pm with rotating weekends and holidays, and offers a frontline opportunity to impact

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED, or enrolled and near completion of a High School Health Sciences program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Direct and continuous observation of patient at a distance no greater than arm's length.
• Participates in patient rounding as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Ensures environmental safety for patient.
• Answers call lights and ensures patient care issues are directed to the Registered Nurse.
• Restocks department supplies and precaution stations.
• Transports patients within the department and to in-hospital locations as needed.
• Cleans patient equipment following the designated process.
• Completes patient safety sitter competency.
• Completes all required documentation for patient care.
• Communicates changes in patient behavior to the Registered Nurse.
• Supports quality improvement studies and activities specific to the unit.
• Considers cultural beliefs and uses interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.
