Job summary

Mercy Health – Youngstown is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for the Emergency Department. This PRN, rotating 12-hour shift role requires availability on weekends and holidays and involves patient registration, insurance verification, and accurate medical record updates.

Responsibilities include scheduling, explaining financial options, and maintaining patient confidentiality. High school diploma or GED is required; an associates degree is preferred. Prior registration experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Experience in patient registration/healthcare preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and verify demographics for accurate billing.
• Perform basic insurance verification and patient identity checks.
• Explain financial options to patients and schedule appointments.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records and ensure patient flow is smooth.
• Answer calls with professionalism and assist callers as needed.
