Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the Emergency Department (Full Time, Nights) to support patient flow and service quality. You will handle order entry, documentation, patient screening, and coordination with the Manager and Charge Nurse in a fast-paced ED environment.

Preferred candidates include those with prior HUC or hospital experience; 12-hour shifts are standard. Strong English communication and basic computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic computer knowledge required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written.
• Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and to use interpreter services effectively

Responsibilities

• Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
• Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.
• Addresses questions and concerns promptly, or identifies appropriate person and resources to do so.
• Provides directions or help to patients and customers with finding their way.
• Uses organizational and unit/department resources efficiently.
• Manages workload efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.
• Coordinates all work with the Manager and Charge Nurse.
• Transcribes orders accurately and enters them in the computer to ensure timely delivery of medications and supplies.
• Interacts professionally with patients/family and provides explanations and reassurance as necessary.
• Acts in support of continuous improvement and cost-reduction efforts
