Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a healthcare coder to translate emergency department records into accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes, supporting optimal reimbursement and reporting. You will review encounters for documentation, assign ED facility E/M levels, and abstract data for billing and regulatory databases.

Proficiency with EPIC, Cerner, Meditech and other coding resources is required, along with communicating with providers to clarify documentation and resolve claim edits.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of recent ED facility coding experience.
• AAPC or AHIMA credential.
• Experience assigning ED facility E/M levels.
• EPIC, Cerner, Meditech EHR experience.
• Experience using E/M resources for guidance (encoders, CMS, AMA, coding clinics).
• Working knowledge of chart completion standards.

Responsibilities

• Codes and abstracts diagnoses and charging for ED encounters.
• Abstracts key data elements for billing and regulatory databases.
• Reviews records for documentation to support accurate charges.
• Communicates with providers to clarify documentation for proper codes.
• Reviews and resolves claim edits related to ED encounters for compliant billing.
• Assists with simple visit coding errors for other outpatient visits as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates professionalism with staff and patients.
• Attends training sessions to improve patient and customer communications.
