Job summary

Tenet Healthcare's DMC Harper University Hospital seeks an experienced ED Communication Specialist to staff the Communication Center in the Detroit Receiving Hospital emergency department. This role centralizes and streamlines inter-site and community communication, handling critical patient transports and major incident coordination.

The candidate will manage EMS communications, support STEMI and stroke teams, and ensure rapid transfer of patients while coordinating with ED staff.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• State of Michigan license for Emergency Medical Technician.
• One or two years experience as EMT, preferred.
• Dispatch certification recommended not required.

Responsibilities

• Expedites and coordinates all transfers from external facilities.
• Coordinates and activates STEMI process, stroke team notification, major communicable disease response team, chempack team, decontamination team, all communications from outside agencies regarding acts of bio-terrorism/decontamination/code yellow; activates trauma pager.
• Handles operations of all communication equipment utilized to receive notification of critical patients transports, disasters, or mass casualty events by responding to HEAR radio, Region 2 South 800 MHz HEMS radio, life-net RS 12 lead receiving stations, care point receiving monitor, UHF receiving station, telemetry, EM TRAX, EMResource.
• Maintains appropriate log sheets, and data.
• Attends appropriate trauma systems monthly meetings.
• Telemetry response.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
