Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV is seeking a patient care assistant to support nonprofessional direct and indirect care under supervision of a registered nurse or licensed provider. You will assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, vital signs, specimens, and basic nursing tasks in a fast-paced ED setting.

Work includes 0.6 FTE with two 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), totaling 24 hours per week.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

Observes and reports patient condition changes to a registered nurse.
Assists RN with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient care duties.
Records vital signs and assists with hygiene and intake/output monitoring.
Assists in specimen collection and other patient care activities.
Maintains a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
Reports equipment repairs as needed.
Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostics.
Communicates nutrition issues to RN and advises on diet changes.
Performs tests such as glucose, urine/stool testing and maintains quality logs.
Discontinues IV catheters as directed.
Assists with drainage devices and monitors output.
Performs EKG testing upon request.
Transports specimens to Lab and collects blood samples per physician order.
