Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Certified Emergency Department Technician to support nursing staff in a busy ED. You will perform direct and indirect patient care under supervision, handle vital signs, specimen collection, and routine testing, and assist with admissions and discharges.

Minimum qualifications include EMT certification or CMA, and current state EMT licensure where services are performed.

Qualifications

• Emergency Department tech role supporting RN and licensed providers.
• Must obtain Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient condition changes to RN.
• Assist RN with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
• Record vital signs and assist with hygiene and comfort measures.
• Assist in specimen collection and infection control.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
• Perfom tests such as glucose monitoring and maintain logs.
• Transport specimens to the lab as needed.
• Inserts uncomplicated urinary catheters where appropriate.
• Assist in setting up sterile fields and EKGs where allowed by state rules.
