Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to assist with nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care under supervision of a registered nurse or licensed provider in a fast-paced emergency setting.

The role involves taking vitals, assisting in admissions/discharges, specimen collection when trained, basic tests, IV care, and maintaining a safe, clean environment; weekend/night shifts and a requirement for BLS and hospital-based

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• 1 year post high-school education in nursing/biology/physiology or related field, or current enrollment, or at least 6 months experience in ED or pre-hospital care.

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient condition changes to a nurse immediately.
• Assist RN with admissions, transfers, discharges and general patient care duties.
• Record vital signs and assist with hygiene and comfort; monitor intake/output.
• Assist in specimen collection and patient care activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Report equipment repairs promptly.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures per protocol.
• Communicate nutrition issues to RN and assist with dietary questions.
• Support department operations with administrative tasks.
• Answer call bells and relay messages as needed.
• Perform tests like glucose, urine, and stool; maintain quality control logs.
• Discontinue IVs as instructed; assist with drainage devices.
• Perform EKG testing when requested and transport specimens to Lab as needed.
• Collect blood samples per physician order when phlebotomy credentialed.
