Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking an Emergency Department assistant to support patient care from arrival to departure. You will work closely with RNs in urgent and observation pods, performing direct care, ADLs, and essential clerical tasks within a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities include monitoring IVs, assisting with admissions/discharges, and maintaining patient confidentiality while promoting safety and patient comfort on the unit.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Entry level credentialing of secretarial and nursing assistant skills.
• Current Rhode Island registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care at Brown University Health, with aging and cultural awareness.

Responsibilities

• Delivery of safe patient care in urgent/psychiatric/observation Pods.
• Collaborates with the Registered Nurse to set priorities and organize work.
• Communicates pertinent observations to the RN.
• Administers direct physical care and assists with ADLs.
• Monitors IV flow and signs of infiltration or phlebitis.
• Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Records treatments and reports to the RN; maintains confidentiality.
• Supports RN education and safety protocols.
• Performs other duties within scope of care as assigned.
