Job summary

The CSU Veterinary Health System seeks a Veterinary Technician with strong emergency medicine experience to lead during shifts and guide a team in high‑stress cases. You will coordinate care across departments, uphold safety standards, and mentor students and staff in ECC principles.

Responsibilities include triage, diagnostics interpretation, and treatment planning with clients and referring veterinarians.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited veterinary technician program with more than 3 years of experience in veterinary emergency medicine.
• Substitutions: 4+ years of veterinary emergency medicine experience can substitute for graduation.
• Registered as a Veterinary Technician (VT) or Provisional Veterinary Technician (PVT) through DORA.
• CACVT certification and DORA registration required to use VT titles after 2024.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate clear, compassionate communication with clients and referring veterinarians, ensuring accurate diagnostics and treatment planning.
• Direct case flow and uphold safety standards including isolation, chemotherapy handling, and biosecurity.
• Exercise advanced clinical judgment by interpreting abnormal diagnostics and determining need for advanced therapies.
• Perform high-level technical procedures including advanced catheter/tube placement and complex anesthesia recovery.
• Guide students and staff through clinical cases, promoting patient comfort and low-stress handling.
• Provide training and mentorship in emergency care principles and ECC protocols.
• Lead case prioritization, ensure documentation, and contribute to workflow improvements.
• Coordinate triage onsite or via phone, gather histories, and support client decisions.
