Job summary

Bexar County Sheriff's Office seeks a Public Safety Operator for the Bexar County Communications Center. You will answer emergency and non-emergency calls, route to dispatchers, and operate CAD, CIJS, RMS, and 9-1-1 systems while handling clerical duties and information requests.

Responsibilities include evaluating call severity, prioritizing service, and assisting training new staff in telecommunication procedures in a fast-paced environment with shift work and potential overtime.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Typing 40 wpm with few errors; recent test required.
• Ability to remain calm in emergencies and handle stressful calls.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass background, psychological and physical exams including drug screening.
• Must obtain TCOLE Telecommunicator License within 1 year of employment.
• Must obtain TLETS Certification within 1 year of employment.
• Ability to communicate with diverse groups with tact and diplomacy.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• May require weekend, holiday and shift work.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls and route to dispatchers.
• Determine severity based on information from caller.
• Enter call details into computer and prioritize service.
• Provide information on case numbers, arrival times, addresses and other dispatch data.
• Research databases to verify driver’s licenses, warrants, vehicle records, and criminal history.
• Contact service/utility agencies as directed.
• Assist training of new employees on procedures and equipment.
• Perform clerical duties and related tasks.
