Qualifications

• One year of verifiable experience operating a two-way radio communications base station, receiving, recording and transmitting messages.
• Combined total of one year of verifiable experience operating a multi-line telephone and a two-way radio communications base system; six months must be operating a two-way radio base station.
• Knowledge of operating a two-way base station and computer-aided dispatch systems is required.

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of communications equipment including radio and pager systems to dispatch and transmit information to mobile units.
• Verifies and evaluates messages to determine required action and notify appropriate staff.
• Dispatches mobile units and equipment to locations, including directing emergency services and traffic control.
• Records information from messages and maintains logs and records for permanent reference.
• Assists coordination with other City departments and dispatchers during emergencies and disasters.
• Transmits alarm information and monitors schedules for no-parking zones; performs clerical duties related to procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
