Job summary

The City of Fairfield is conducting an open competitive exam to establish an Eligibility List for the Dispatcher position with the Fairfield Police Department. The exam is Monday, November 16, 2026, at 6:00 pm at the Fairfield Community Arts Center, 411 Wessel Dr., Fairfield, OH 45014.

Candidates will relay messages and provide emergency information by telephone or radio, dispatch personnel and equipment, operate computer terminals, and maintain files.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required with strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to make sound judgments in critical situations and multitask in a high-stress environment.
• Basic computer literacy and knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment; prior police/fire/EMS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency (911) and non-emergency police and fire calls by phone or radio.
• Dispatch personnel and equipment to emergencies as needed.
• Operate computer terminals, maintain files and records, and manage phone/radio equipment.
