Job summary

The University of Kansas seeks an Emergency Communications Officer to join the 24/7 KU Police Department operations in Lawrence. You will receive, analyze, prioritize and dispatch information via radio, telephone and other devices to protect life and university property.

The role includes handling 911 calls, coordinating with local agencies, and maintaining police records. Overtime may be required for special events and incidents; shifts are 8–6, 2–12, and 10–8 with rotating days off.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to work 10‑hour shifts with rotating days off.
• Must pass a thorough background check.

Responsibilities

• Operate a radio base station and dispatch emergency services per procedures.
• Monitor multiple radio frequencies and coordinate with police, fire and medical units.
• Answer emergency and non‑emergency lines and document incident data accurately.
• Log calls and use TTY for hearing‑impaired callers when needed.
• Maintain logs, records and reports in compliance with policies.
