Job summary

The University of Kansas is seeking a full-time Emergency Communications Officer to support police and emergency personnel in protecting life, health, safety, and campus property. The role entails prioritizing information, operating multiple systems, and processing police records in a 24/7 center with rotating shifts.

Shifts run 8 a.m.–6 p.m., 2 p.m.–12 a.m., and 10 p.m.–8 a.m., with overtime for events and incidents. Excellent benefits and professional development opportunities are included.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• NCIC certification required by end of probation.
• Ability to work 10-hour shifts with rotating days off.
• Hearing and vision requirements met with or without accommodations.
• Must pass thorough background check.

Responsibilities

• Operate a radio base station and relay messages to emergency personnel accurately.
• Log pertinent information and monitor unit status across multiple frequencies.
• Answer police lines and 911 lines for the University of Kansas.
• Calm agitated callers and gather incident data using proper techniques.
• Dispatch emergency services (police, fire, medical) as needed.
• Log calls and manage TTY for hearing-impaired callers.
• Use CAD, alarms and notification systems for data entry.
