Job summary

The City of Independence seeks a communications professional to operate and coordinate radio communications for police, fire, and animal services. Responsibilities include 9-1-1 CAD operation, NCIC/MULES/REJIS access, weather siren coordination, and recording duties.

Must multi-task in a high-stress environment and assist multiple departments and the public. Qualifying candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to type 35 wpm, and complete NIMS training within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must type at least 35 words per minute.
• Successful completion of training program, including required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate 9-1-1 CAD and radio communications equipment.
• Coordinate with Police, Fire, Animal Services and other City staff.
• Maintain procedures manuals, directories and maps and respond to high-stress situations.
• Interact with citizens, visitors and other emergency personnel as needed.
