Job summary

Tufts Medical Center, Inc. seeks an Emergency Department Nursing Support role responsible for direct patient care and administrative support under the supervision of a professional nurse.

Rotating schedule includes day, night, and weekend shifts, totaling 36 hours per week and coordinated patient flow in the Emergency Department. The role requires high school diploma, BLS, and phlebotomy competency within 3 months; preferred CNA/MA and EMT credentials; healthcare experience is valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Phlebotomy competency training within 3 months.
• Preferred: Current CNA or MA certification.
• Preferred: EMT or AEMT certification.
• Nursing Fundamentals completion in an accredited program.
• One year of related experience as NA, PCA, CCT, or PCT.
• Two years of healthcare experience, acute setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the registered nurse in patient care and communicates findings to the nurse.
• Provides or assists with patient care procedures, ensuring safety, comfort and dignity.
• Collects specimens including phlebotomy and prepares them for lab testing.
• Greets patients and families, responds to requests, and facilitates nursing workflow.
• Records and communicates patient data to the assigned nurse promptly.
• Prepares rooms for admission/transfer/discharge and ensures equipment readiness.
• Transports patients as needed and coordinates with nursing staff.
• Provides comfort measures and supports patient safety and dignity.
• Sets up procedures and cleans/discards used equipment following procedures.
• Cares for biomedical equipment and reports malfunctions.
• Assists with wound care, dressings, and point-of-care testing.
• Performs EKG and monitors patient status under supervision.
• Updates patient belongings and completes admission/transfer/discharge tasks.
• Answers call lights and supports shift communications.
