Job summary

The City of Rowlett, TX, is seeking a Communications Dispatcher for the Police Department. Under direct supervision, you will operate equipment and coordinate emergency and non-emergency calls for Police/Fire/EMS.

You must have a high school diploma or GED and pass required tests, including CritiCall, with a strong emphasis on calm, clear communication. Position offers step pay and annual increases; process includes extensive background checks, testing, and a multi-stage interview.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; related experience with computer aided dispatch systems in a public safety position preferred.
• Must pass a simulated dispatch test with an overall score of 80% and a minimum keystroke rate of 4004 keystrokes per hour.
• Must obtain state dispatcher certification within one year of hire.
• Must report all traffic citations to the department within two working days.

Responsibilities

• Answers 911 emergency and non-emergency lines; determines what Fire or Police equipment is needed on the scene.
• Monitors CAD system and transmits relevant information to field officers; coordinates responders as needed.
• Monitors alarms and weather bulletins; tests radio and warning equipment; maintains logs and databases.
• Regular, reliable attendance and ability to work under stress; maintain professional relations with colleagues and the public.
