Job summary

Express Employment Professionals - Cincinnati East is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative engineering team developing sophisticated electro/mechanical products. This role spans firmware, hardware, and system-level development, with ownership across disciplines.

You’ll work close to the hardware, develop low-level firmware for MCUs and sensors, read schematics, and collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software teammates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• Experience developing embedded firmware for hardware products.
• Strong understanding of embedded systems and hardware/firmware interaction.
• Experience with microcontrollers, peripherals, sensors, and communications interfaces.
• Experience with hardware architecture, board-level design, or hardware/firmware integration.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and hardware specs.
• Experience debugging embedded systems with oscilloscopes and debuggers.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ or similar languages.
• Willingness to influence hardware design based on firmware/system needs.
• Curiosity to expand into broader software and system architecture.

Responsibilities

• Develop, debug, test, and maintain embedded firmware for instrumentation and sensing products.
• Work across hardware/firmware boundary to understand interactions.
• Contribute to hardware architecture and firmware perspective in design decisions.
• Develop low-level firmware interfacing with MCUs, sensors, peripherals, and communications interfaces.
• Troubleshoot issues across hardware, firmware, and system.
• Read schematics, use boards and test equipment to understand behavior.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and product teams.
• Contribute through product development from concept to sustaining engineering.
• Help establish firmware development practices, architecture, testing, and documentation.
• Take on projects outside primary area when needed.
• Grow into broader software and system architecture leadership.
