Job summary

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer – Level 2 in Dulles, VA to support mission-critical national and global security efforts. The role focuses on developing space flight software platforms and collaborating with a diverse team of engineers.

The position requires an active Secret clearance and a 9/80 schedule with 100% onsite work; relocation assistance may be available and a strong emphasis on innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 2 years of experience or Master’s degree.
• Active U.S. Government Secret clearance at time of application.
• Proficient in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with embedded systems, real-time OS, and avionics integration/test practices.
• Familiarity with Stellar or CFS.
• Demonstrated Linux programming experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software modules with UART, MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire, SPI, and IO protocols.
• Prepare Flight-Software requirements, testing, and verification plans.
• Develop and configure BSPs and device drivers.
• Perform trade studies via simulation or kits and development boards.
• Collaborate with engineers to integrate spacecraft components and flight software with the simulation platform.
• Work on hardware-in-the-loop platforms and system integration.
• Analyze system resources to improve efficiency, stability, and processing speed.
• Prepare design documentation, analysis, and test results for internal and external customers.
• Assist in diagnosing issues during installation, integration, and tests.
• Contribute to a collaborative, innovative, diverse environment across all levels.
