Job summary

AeroVironment is offering a paid Summer Internship Program in California. The embedded software engineering intern will design, develop, and test software for unmanned aerial and robotic systems, working with real hardware across microcontrollers and processors in a full‑time onsite setting.

You will engage in the full lifecycle from prototyping to validation, gaining industry best practices and hands‑on experience in embedded development in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with C, C++, or Python programming.
• Understanding of low‑level software concepts (memory, interrupts, drivers).
• Exposure to I2C, SPI, UART, or CAN protocols.

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and onboard components.
• Implement software in C/C++ for real‑time and bare‑metal systems on microcontrollers.
• Support integration of software with hardware; debug with lab tools.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and mechanical engineers for cohesive development.
• Participate in peer reviews, documentation, and configuration management.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems for real‑world missions.
• Assist in prototypes and proof‑of‑concept demonstrations.
