The role emphasizes C, ARM Cortex-M, wireless protocols (Z-Wave, sub-GHz), OTA updates, and secure firmware practices. Candidates should have experience with bare-metal/RTOS firmware, debugging tools, and modular firmware

Qualifications

• Proficient in Embedded C, with bare-metal/RTOS firmware experience.
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and low-power design.
• Strong wireless protocol expertise: Z-Wave, sub-GHz, mesh, OTA updates.
• Security awareness: secure boot, firmware signing, key provisioning.
• Experience with Silicon Labs tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software for embedded hardware.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate firmware.
• Implement and debug firmware using J-Link/SWD/GDB.
• Develop OTA update mechanisms and secure firmware workflows.
• Follow CI/CD and write modular firmware.

The Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software that operates directly on hardware systems. This role involves working closely with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of embedded systems.

Job Specific Requirements

• Embedded C (mandatory)
• Bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware
• ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers
• Interrupt-driven architectures
• DMA, timers, watchdogs, GPIO, UART, SPI, I2C
• Bootloaders and firmware update systems
• Debugging with J-Link/SWD/GDB
• Low-power firmware design

The Silicon Labs EFR32 family is ARM Cortex-M33 based, so Cortex-M experience matters directly.

Wireless Protocol Expertise (Critical)

This is where average embedded developers get separated from actual RF/wireless experts.
