Detroit Engineered Products in Michigan seeks an experienced software leader for real-time embedded development. You will oversee the full software lifecycle, coordinate with program management and safety teams, and ensure cybersecurity and verification activities meet USG requirements.

The role requires 4+ years in embedded C++ with RTOS, strong design skills, and the ability to guide a team through audits and milestone reviews.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of real-time embedded software development or 2 years with a master's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the software engineering lifecycle from estimation to hardware/software integration and range testing.
  • Coordinate with Software Architect to align outcomes with requirements and approvals.
  • Lead problem solving to optimize system performance, quality, and cost.
  • Ensure cybersecurity efforts are coordinated within the software domain.
  • Monitor and control technical, cost, and schedule performance with corrective actions.
  • Oversee EVMS reporting via Control Accounts/Work Packages.
  • Plan software project schedules to align with product development timelines.
  • Manage internal and external resources to acquire necessary talent.
  • Provide PDR input for assigned project personnel.
  • Ensure adherence to Business Management System procedures and safety-related rigor.
  • Coordinate with Safety Engineering for software safety rigor.
  • Support SQA and SCM audits.
  • Plan and lead milestone reviews with US Government representatives.
  • Communicate risks and status at IPT meetings and reviews.
  • Present metrics and status to stakeholders and customers.
  • Maintain the technical reputation with customers and industry partners.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership and Execution Oversee the associated software engineering lifecycle, including estimating, planning, requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, unit testing, hardware/software integration, and range testing. Evaluate software requirements for consistency with higher level performance goals, customer needs, and contractual Statements of Work. Coordinate with the Software Architect to ensure technical outcomes meet customer requirements and secure necessary approvals from Functional Management. Lead collaborative problem-solving and resolve conflicts between subsystems or disciplines to optimize system performance, quality, and cost. Ensure all Cybersecurity efforts are properly coordinated within the software domain. Project and Performance Management Monitor and control technical, cost, and schedule performance implementing corrective actions as needed to keep efforts on track. Oversee Control Accounts or Work Packages, providing periodic estimates at complete (EAC) to support the EVMS reporting. Plan software project schedules and builds to align with overall product development timelines. Manage internal and external resources, coordinating with functional and project managers to identify and acquire necessary talent. Provide unbiased, constructive Performance and Development Review (PDR) input for assigned project personnel. Compliance, Quality and Safety Ensure the project team executes with rigor in accordance with tailored Business Management System (BMS) Procedures. Coordinate with Safety Engineering organization to ensure software safety efforts are accurately recorded and that the appropriate level of rigor is applied to safety critical work products. Support the Software Verification Lead in planning, environment design, and the execution of test scripts and procedures. Ensure the team successfully supports Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and Software Configuration Management (SCM) audits. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Plan and lead formal software development milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR) with United States Government (USG) representatives. Proactively communicate risks, issues and opportunities to the Software IPT Lead, Functional Manager and Program Manager(s). Prepare and present project metrics and technical status at formal milestone reviews, technical interchange meetings, and IPT meetings. Maintain and enhance the technical reputation of BAE Systems with customers and industry partners.

Skills Required

Highly skilled in object-oriented design and C++ embedded software development. Familiarity with Ethernet communications. Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills. Ability to conduct effective meetings, discussions, and presentations. Clearance: Secret Eligible.

Skills Preferred

Experience working with RTOS and/or bare-metal real-time application development. Working Cybersecurity domain knowledge, specifically of Risk Management Framework and the requirements and process to obtain/maintain Authority to Operate (ATO). Ideally, the candidate would possess a cybersecurity certification. Weapon system and/or combat vehicle subject matter expertise.

Experience Required

Minimum of 4 years of experience in real-time embedded software development and/or software testing; can be 2 years with a master s degree Experience providing technical direction to a team of developers. Practical knowledge and experience with applicable software engineering processes Familiarity with Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI) and Software Life Cycle Management Working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and Control Account Manager/Work Package Manager duties. Contemporary design/development experience.
