Job summary

Forterra is seeking a Software Engineer to design, implement, test, and maintain safety-critical embedded software for autonomous ground vehicle platforms. This role spans the full software lifecycle from requirements to verification, requiring close collaboration with safety and test engineers and a strong hardware-software interface mindset.

You will translate system requirements into readable C/C++ code, implement fault detection and safe response behaviors, and contribute to architecture

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE/EE or related field.
• 3+ years in embedded or safety-critical software.
• C/C++ proficiency; Python or scripting.
• Experience with RTOS/embedded targets.
• Experience with Git, CMake, CI, code reviews.
• Familiarity with MISRA C/C++, static analysis, unit testing.
• Strong problem solving and communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain safety-critical embedded software for autonomous ground vehicle platforms.
• Translate system requirements into readable C/C++ code.
• Develop fault detection, diagnostics, and safe response mechanisms.
• Write unit, integration, and target-based tests; support verification.
• Debug hardware, software, firmware, timing, and integration issues.
• Participate in architecture, design, code, and test plan reviews.
• Document decisions, test results, anomaly resolution, and requirements traceability.
• Collaborate with safety, test, and systems engineers to improve requirements and practices.
