Job summary

Vanthal Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Embedded Robotics Software Engineer in Annapolis, Maryland for on-site development of the software layer that connects autonomy, mission systems, controllers, sensors, and aircraft.

You will build reliable interfaces, health monitoring, logging, and fault-recovery across multiple configurations while collaborating with hardware and test personnel. The role requires hands-on work with embedded computers, flight controllers, radios, and test equipment, and

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software-engineering, embedded-systems, robotics, or closely related experience
  • 3+ years integrating software with robotics and hardware
  • Strong C++ experience and Python proficiency
  • Experience developing software for Linux-based embedded computers
  • Experience with hardware interfaces (serial, USB, Ethernet, CAN)
  • Experience with binary or structured communications protocols
  • Experience with multithreaded, asynchronous, or real-time-adjacent software
  • Ability to read hardware documentation and interface-control documents
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and live aircraft testing
  • Experience using Git and collaborative software development practices

Responsibilities

  • Develop software for Linux-based edge-compute systems
  • Create vehicle interfaces for multiple unmanned-aircraft configurations
  • Build hardware-abstraction layers isolating higher-level software from vehicle-specific interfaces
  • Develop discovery and identification of connected vehicle hardware
  • Integrate with Pixhawk-compatible flight controllers (ArduPilot / PX4)
  • Develop MAVLink and MSP interfaces
  • Implement local buffering and data pipelines for telemetry
  • Develop software deployment and update mechanisms for edge computers
  • Support laboratory and flight-test activities
  • Document protocols, interfaces, and recovery behavior
