Job summary

RTX in Tucson, AZ seeks a software engineer to join the Effects Center, developing real-time embedded software for defense systems. You will design, code, test, and integrate critical software in a fast-paced, agile environment.

You will collaborate with systems engineers and hardware designers to align requirements and interfaces, applying C/C++, RTOS, and hardware-software integration skills. A master's in a STEM field and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM major obtained by start date.
• Experience developing, building, or debugging software applications utilizing C, C++, or another object-oriented programming language.
• Experience with hardware-software integration, embedded system testing, or bench-level software debugging.
• Experience developing software using object-oriented principles and the practical application of common data structures and algorithms.
• Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
• Experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or embedded Linux.
• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers, development boards (ARM, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
• Knowledge of systems software design, OS architectures, and assembly language.
• Experience using modeling tools, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or LabVIEW.
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation or FPGA design (VHDL/Verilog).
• Familiarity with modern software workflows, Git, Agile methodologies.
• Exposure to ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) or NumPy/Pandas.
• Experience creating formal technical documentation and API specifications.
• Previous internship or research in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability embedded software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in deriving software requirements, architecture design, implementation, and verification for real-time embedded software.
• Design, code, test, and integrate high-reliability software solutions for missiles, launchers, radars, and naval fire control systems.
• Work in a fast-paced agile team across the full software development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and project managers to align requirements and interface definitions.
• Follow established software engineering processes and configuration management to deliver robust, mission-critical work products.
