Amazon seeks an experienced Software Development Engineer specializing in controls and embedded software to join our robotics team developing advanced workcell automation solutions. You will design, develop, and deploy real-time control systems that orchestrate robotic manipulation tasks within automated workcells.

Collaborate across embedded systems, motion control, and distributed software to deliver high-performance automation for production environments.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience for new or existing systems.
• 2+ years of SDE or related occupational experience.
• 4+ years designing and developing large-scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded embedded or distributed software using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 2+ years of object oriented design experience.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience programming in at least one software language.
• Knowledge of SDLC best practices including coding standards, reviews, source control, CI, testing, and operations.
• Experience designing or architecting (patterns, reliability, scaling) of systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement real-time embedded control software for workcells, including motion controllers and sensor integration.
• Develop architectures balancing real-time performance with maintainability and extensibility.
• Own development of control algorithms and embedded components within Workcell Controls Architecture.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to define interfaces, implement device drivers, and optimize performance on PLCs and RTOS.
• Lead design reviews and contribute to architecture decisions for scalability and reliability.
• Mentor teammates on embedded systems, real-time programming, and controls engineering principles.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems and root-cause analysis.
