Job summary

Tanium seeks a highly motivated product counsel to join our legal team in Bellevue, WA area. You will provide practical legal advice to engineering and product management across domestic and international product issues, helping drive go-to-market goals with a pragmatic, cross-functional approach.

You will lead AI policy and risk assessments, ensure privacy by design, review licenses and open-source processes, and contribute to IP strategy while coordinating with outside counsel to support

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited institution.
• Active and in good standing in at least one state bar.
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience in software/SaaS or related tech.
• Familiarity with AI governance and regulatory frameworks (NIST RMF, EU AI Act).
• Knowledge of global privacy laws and their impact on product development.
• Strong communication and independent work ability.
• Ability to drive cross-functional consensus and enforce legal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical legal advice on product-related issues domestically and globally.
• Partner with Product Management, Engineering and Strategy through the product lifecycle.
• Advise on AI policies, licensing, and risk assessments.
• Develop processes to ensure compliance with global laws including privacy and data security.
• Negotiate inbound and outbound license agreements.
• Participate in the open-source review process.
• Advise on privacy by design and data handling throughout the SDLC.
• Review product collateral and marketing materials.
• Support IP strategy and manage patent/trademark portfolios with outside counsel.
• Assist with incident response and security events.
