Job summary

Base Power Company in Austin, Texas, is hiring an Embedded Software Engineer for the Embedded MCU team. You will own firmware for Base's batteries, inverters, and disconnect systems, from bare-metal and RTOS control to CAN communications and field deployment.

You’ll lead board bring-up, develop reusable firmware libraries, and collaborate closely with hardware engineers to ensure safe, deterministic real-time operation across a growing fleet of power hardware.

Qualifications

• Shipping bare-metal and RTOS firmware on modern MCUs
• Strong C/C++ with memory management and ISR-safe patterns
• Experience reading schematics and collaborating with hardware engineers
• Knowledge of CAN/CAN-FD and higher-level protocols like ISO-TP/UDS

Responsibilities

• Own the business logic on Base's microcontrollers: state machines, control and safety coordination.
• Lead hardware bring-up end-to-end, including driver development and BSP/HAL integration.
• Implement deterministic real-time control and protection on multi-core MCUs within timing budgets.
• Build and maintain device communications stack (CAN/CAN-FD drivers, buffering, transport).
• Serve as software interface to Hardware Engineering: processor selection, timing, and bench debugging.
• Create reusable firmware libraries and coding standards for rapid product ship.
• Take prototypes to production firmware and field deployment with hardware-in-the-loop testing.
