Job summary

Sherwood Design Engineers in New York, NY is seeking a Product Development Engineer focused on Embedded Systems & IoT Hardware to design and fabricate custom sensing technologies for environmental intelligence.

You will lead hardware development from napkin sketch to field deployment, designing circuits, enclosures, and low-level firmware for rugged outdoor devices, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics, or related field.
• 5+ years in hardware product development, embedded systems, or ruggedized devices.
• Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer, KiCad or Eagle.
• 3D CAD modeling for enclosures using SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
• Embedded programming in C/C++ for microcontrollers with common protocols.
• Experience with lab equipment and power validation for long-term, low-power systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware development from concept to field deployment.
• Design circuits, rugged enclosures, and low-level embedded firmware.
• Develop environmental sensing hardware and power management strategies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet environmental intelligence goals.
• Provide clear hardware documentation and specifications.
