Job summary

Sweetwater, a leading online retailer of music instruments and pro audio gear, is seeking an Email Developer to join our Performance Marketing team. The ideal candidate will craft high‑quality HTML/CSS email templates, implement Liquid logic, and ensure pixel-perfect rendering across major email clients.

You will map customer journeys using automation platforms, deploy automated campaigns, optimize templates, and test across devices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a technical marketing role or email/automation team.
• Experience with Marketing Automation Systems (Blueshift, Braze, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, etc.).
• Proficient in HTML/CSS and email client troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of email marketing best practices.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with marketing to map customer journeys and design automated campaigns.
• Develop and deploy email journeys, SMS/MMS, list management, and integration tasks.
• Code responsive HTML/CSS email templates for promotional, transactional, and automated campaigns.
• Edit and optimize existing email templates and modules.
• QA testing across Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and devices for consistency.
• Identify and resolve rendering issues, including dark mode/font rendering.

Job Requirements

Sweetwater, the nation's number one online retailer of music instruments and pro audio gear, is seeking to hire a knowledgeable, driven, and passionate Email Developer to our growing Performance Marketing team! The ideal candidate for this position will be a well-rounded, detail-oriented, and collaborative marketing technologist. The optimal candidate will have a deep understanding of Marketing Automation Platforms (e.g., Braze, Blueshift, Salesforce Marketing Cloud) and their functionalities, including customer journey mapping, template buildouts, and email QA. They will also possess expertise in creating custom, high-quality email templates using HTML, CSS, and Liquid Logic to deliver seamless and engaging email experiences for our users.

Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate with marketing team to map customer journeys and design automated, personalized campaigns in accordance with business objectives.
• Develop and deploy items such as email marketing journey optimization, SMS/MMS, subscriber list management, Blueshift native connector integration, customer attribute ingestion and activation.
• Code and develop responsive and visually appealing HTML/CSS email templates for promotional, transactional and automated email campaigns.
• Manipulate and edit existing HTML/CSS email templates and template modules.
• Perform thorough quality assurance testing on emails across diverse email clients (e.g., Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail) and devices to ensure consistent design, functionality, and performance.
• Able to identify and resolve potential challenges proactively, such like dark mode rendering and font rendering inconsistencies across devices and email clients.
• Utilize liquid logic to customize existing content blocks within email templates and create new content blocks to support a templatized, modular design system and corresponding code library.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in a similar technical role within a marketing department or email/automation team.
• Experience with Marketing Automation Systems (e.g. Blueshift, Braze, Marketo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, etc.) or similar platforms - managing enhancement requests and owning the day-to-day operations within each system.
• Proficient in HTML and CSS, experience coding for various email clients, and ability to troubleshoot rendering issues.
• Strong working knowledge of email marketing best practices
• Experience using email testing platforms such as Litmus
• Proficient understanding of CAN-SPAM, CCPA, GDPR, and related compliance requirements as it relates to Marketing systems implementation and management
• Experience in retail e-commerce is a bonus.
