Job summary

North Kansas City Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional for English Language Learners to support ELL instruction and program delivery. Under the guidance of the ELL teacher and regular teachers, you will help plan and deliver language development, assist with assessments, and maintain the student records.

You will communicate with families, coordinate interpreters when needed, and may substitute for the ELL teacher during emergencies.

Qualifications

• At least 36 college hours; pass Missouri paraprofessional test or 20-hour substitute training; 60 hours preferred.
• Missouri Teaching Certificate preferred.
• Possess the knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes to perform essential functions.
• Alternative qualifications as the Board finds appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver English language development instruction to identified ELLs in small groups or pull-out sessions.
• Provide small group instruction to ELLs in the regular classroom under supervision.
• Collaborate with ELL and classroom teachers to plan and deliver instruction.
• Communicate with staff, families and others regarding ELL needs.
• Assist with administration and scoring of language assessments.
• Assist with reporting and record keeping for ELL students and program.
• Assist with strategies for reinforcing material based on students' backgrounds.
• Maintain home-school communication; arrange interpreters when needed.
• Supervise students during drills, assemblies, etc.
• Serve as information source for substitute teachers in the ELL program.
• Potentially substitute for the ELL teacher on an emergency basis.
• Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
• May perform routine clerical duties; may have hallway or bus duty assignments.
• Bilingual ELL aides may translate documents during duty hours.
• Demonstrate strong human relations and communication skills.
• Comply with district rules, regulations, and policies.
• Regular and consistent attendance is essential; other duties as assigned.
