Job summary

Fifth Third Bank is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator to handle the complete residential loan process from application to closing, working with outside referrals and ensuring risk controls are followed.

The role requires knowledge of loan products, processing, underwriting, and closing procedures, plus strong communication and customer service in a competitive environment. Columbus, OH-based position with incentive-based compensation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; four-year college degree preferred.
• Knowledge of conventional and/or government lending guidelines.
• Knowledge of residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.
• Knowledge of federal lending regulations governing real estate lending.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and strong written/verbal communication.
• Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills; basic sales technique.
• Proven ability to excel in a competitive environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop referral contacts (realtors, builders, professional and personal contacts).
• Maintain knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies and procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of available loan products, processing procedures, and underwriting guidelines.
• Follow defined protocol for escalation exceptions.
• Take applicant applications by completing Fannie Mae form 1003 on the laptop.
• Utilize the laptop for communication and access daily rates, credit reports, and loan processing steps.
• Collect documentation from applicants and deliver loan packages within management timeframes.
• Manage pipeline for all originated loans through closing and complete required reports.
• Communicate with branches and applicants with timely updates and progress reports.
• Maintain high levels of customer service while managing expectations.
• Attend Consumer Lending meetings as required by management.
