Job summary

Paul Logistics | Paul Transportation in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Heavy Haul Permit Specialist to support the growth of our Heavy Haul and Specialized Cargo division. The role spans across asset-based Heavy Haul and Logistics/brokerage, planning oversize and superload shipments nationwide.

The ideal candidate will understand heavy haul, assess shipment dimensions for safe and legal movement, and manage permits, routing, escorts, and related details in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years OS/OW permitting and/or heavy haul dispatch experience.
• Working knowledge of state-specific oversize/overweight regulations and permitting processes.
• Experience dispatching specialized trailers (RGNs, lowboys, multi-axle configurations, stretch trailers, jeeps, boosters).
• Ability to understand axle configurations, loaded dimensions, permit requirements, route restrictions.
• Experience with permitting and routing systems and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
• Strong attention to detail; inches and pounds matter in Heavy Haul.
• Ability to manage multiple complicated shipments and make quick decisions when plans change.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate OS/OW and superload shipments from planning through delivery.
• Obtain and manage state and local permits for single-state and multi-state moves.
• Review permits for routing, travel restrictions, escort requirements, curfews, and other conditions.
• Calculate and verify loaded height, width, length, gross weight, axle weights, and axle spacing.
• Assist with equipment configurations based on cargo dimensions and weight.
• Coordinate pilot cars, height poles, escorts, route surveys, and third-party services as required.
• Work with drivers, carriers, operations, customers, permit agencies, and authorities.
• Dispatch and monitor Paul Heavy Haul assets and support Paul Logistics shipments.
• Track shipments and communicate delays, restrictions, or route changes.
• Review drawings and shipment info to identify transportation concerns prior to load movement.
• Maintain records of permits, routes, escorts, costs, and documentation.
• Assist Heavy Haul in evaluating opportunities during quoting and planning.
