Job summary

Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC seeks a Training Instructor (Firearms) to design and deliver basic and advanced firearms instruction for sworn personnel and other staff. You will develop lesson plans, supervise training teams, and ensure safety standards across indoor and outdoor ranges.

The role requires a strong foundation in adult learning, firearms technologies, and the ability to produce reports, coordinate with other agencies, and manage training records and equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of specialized experience in firearms training.
• Experience applying adult learning theories and instructional methods.
• Knowledge of firearms maintenance and safety procedures.
• Ability to prepare coherent written reports and present instructions clearly.
• Familiarity with indoor/outdoor firing ranges and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, revise, and provide firearms instruction for courses.
• Develop lesson plans, tests, and evaluation criteria.
• Observe and correct firing techniques of trainees.
• Provide remedial training and safety recommendations.
• Coordinate with other instructors and agencies as needed.
• Schedule firearms instruction and maintain training records.
• Prepare narrative and statistical reports documenting work assignments.
• Supervise training development or administration teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
