Job summary

The Department of Health and Human Services in Maine seeks an Eligibility Specialist II to connect residents with MaineCare, SNAP, and TANF. You will determine eligibility, explain rules, and support families through complex processes in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

You will evaluate information, perform calculations, and utilize multiple systems to ensure accurate determinations while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to improve outcomes for individuals and communities.

Qualifications

• Four-year combination of education/training/experience in social services showing interviewing and data gathering.
• Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Business Administration, or related field accepted.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate information and apply program standards to determine complex eligibility for multiple programs.
• Use multiple technology systems to enter, review, and verify eligibility data and documentation.
• Explain program rules and decisions in writing, by phone, and in person.
• Review information received electronically or by mail to ensure completeness and compliance.
• Connect individuals with additional programs and services that may help their health and well-being.
• Engage in outreach to provide program information and accept applications.
• Gather evidence, develop reports, and represent the Department at hearings.
• Communicate clearly with diverse individuals and assist them through complex systems.
