Job summary

State of Hawaiʻi in Honolulu, HI is seeking an elevator inspector to perform safety inspections and oversight for elevators and related equipment. The role includes training and progressive inspection responsibilities, with emphasis on applying safety codes, plans review, and incident investigations.

Qualified candidates have five years of elevator inspection experience, two years of engineering coursework, and NAESA/ASME-acceptable credentials.

Qualifications

• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as an elevator mechanic.
• Two years of college coursework in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
• Any comparable combination of mechanical or electrical trades training and/or experience as deemed acceptable by NAESA or ASME.
• Driver’s license Type 3.

Responsibilities

• Study safety codes and standards relevant to the equipment inspected.
• Relate safety codes to machinery and site conditions.
• Observe inspections and tests of elevators and related equipment.
• Review plans for new installations to ensure code compliance.
• Assist in acceptance tests for new installations or renovations.
• Prepare reports of inspection results with recommendations.
• Assist in investigation of accidents involving inspected equipment.
• Learn to use tools such as tachometer and pressure gauge.
• Attend meetings, seminars and training programs.
