Job summary

The State of Washington Dept. of Labor & Industries is seeking a Chief Elevator Inspector to lead the elevator program, ensuring safety and consistent enforcement of laws for elevators, escalators, and related conveyances across the state.

The role involves overseeing inspections, licensing, and regulatory guidance. Ideal candidates will have extensive supervisory experience, a journey-level elevator mechanic background, and a QEI certification, with strong communication skills to collaborate

Qualifications

High School Diploma.
Five years of supervisory or leadership experience managing an elevator program.
Four years working as a journey-level elevator mechanic.
Two years working for an Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) inspecting elevators and other conveyances.
Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification.
Experience in reviewing mechanical, electrical, architectural and elevator final layout drawings.
Valid unrestricted driver's license and insurance if driving state business.
Ability to take action to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

Ensure the safety of Washington residents by enforcing elevator laws, rules, and codes.
Inspect conveyances annually and ensure compliance with code standards.
Resolve technical problems arising from regulatory enforcement.
Provide technical assistance to stakeholders and lawmakers.
Manage Elevator Contractor and Elevator Mechanic licenses and registrations.
Engage in long-term strategic planning for the program.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
