Job summary

St. Anthony-New Brighton School District is seeking an Elementary Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with special needs in classrooms, learning sites, and community settings.

You will assist in implementing instructional plans, monitor progress, help with behavior management, and collaborate with teachers, families, and IEP teams. A high school diploma or GED is required, with additional post-secondary coursework encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with acceptable post-secondary options (AA/AS/AAS or higher)
• Passing score on ParaPro Assessment or Paraeducator Online (for more information, contact Educational Testing Service)
• Experience in healthcare settings may be beneficial

Responsibilities

• Instruct and support students with special needs in various settings, developing self-advocacy and independence.
• Meet with teachers to determine appropriate performance levels, modifications, and assignments.
• Assist in implementing daily instructional plans and provide input on student needs.
• Occasionally supervise students in modified learning areas and assist with tasks when teachers are unavailable.
• Prepare classroom materials, file documents, and complete student evaluation sheets.
• Monitor, evaluate and record classroom behaviors; provide redirections and safety support as needed.
• Provide personal care assistance and supervise students during meals, hallway, and field trips.
• Participate in district committees and attend IEP and 504 meetings.
• Communicate with students, families, and district personnel regarding student progress.
• Mentor other instructional staff and student teachers; participate in staff development.
• Must be able to lift and assist with student mobility as required.
