Job summary

Pittsfield Public Schools at Stearns Elementary School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional to support teachers and students within the instructional program. Qualifications

• Must be Highly Qualified as proscribed by NCLB (Associate's degree or passing Para Pro or Work Keys assessment)
• Experience working with nonverbal students, experience working with students with significant disabilities
• Ability to reinforce positive behaviors; excellent behavior management and communication skills; willingness to be trained in de-escalation and restraint techniques provided by the district.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the teacher and the student with the instructional program
• Assisting the teacher to assess student performance
• Maintaining records and data on student performance as assigned by the teacher
• Monitoring student behavior and assisting students to engage in appropriate classroom behavior
• Assisting the teacher in implementing IEPs, when applicable
