Job summary

Northwest ISD seeks an Elementary Special Education Aide – Resource to support students with disabilities under the supervision of a certified teacher. You will assist in instructional activities, manage behavior, and help with self-care tasks within the classroom and transition periods.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, preparing materials, supervising students during lunch and field trips, and implementing therapy-related activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Paraprofessional Aide certification from Texas.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Ability to physically manage students with motor/behavioral difficulties.
• Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention and/or Safety Care.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to federal, state and local policies related to special education aides.
• Participate in training related to special education students.
• Participate in professional growth activities.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
• Maintain student records and audit folders.
• Prepare, use and maintain instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
• Supervise students inside and outside the classroom and during transitions and field trips.
• Assist with self-care activities for students (e.g., feeding, dressing, toileting).
• Assist in implementing therapy programs requiring lifting/positioning.
• Contribute to behavior intervention strategies.
• Attend professional meetings as required.
• Support substitute teachers and maintain confidentiality.
• Use district safety techniques including restraint.
