Job summary

Jourdanton ISD is seeking an Elementary - Behavior SpEd Aide to support students with disabilities under the supervision of a certified teacher. The role emphasizes self-help, behavior management, and instructional support to implement IEPs in and out of the classroom.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, Texas educational aide certification, and experience working with children, including those with special needs, to promote safe and inclusive learning environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• One of: formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning.
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Two years of experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Help meet the individual needs of students, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning, interpreting instructions, and assisting with physical needs such as feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
• Help manage the behavior of assigned students, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students as needed.
• Recognize differences in students’ special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interactions accordingly.
• Work with assigned students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
• Assist assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
• Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of the assigned students.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in professional development programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
