Qualifications

• Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
• Appropriate content and grade level licensure Teacher of Severe or Moderate Disability (PreK-8) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license; or Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license at high school level preferred and expected within 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Guides the learning process toward district curriculum goals with clear objectives for all lessons.
• Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media as appropriate.
• Assesses student progress and provides reports; communicates with parents as needed.
• Maintains accurate records as required by law and policy.
• Diagnoses learning challenges and seeks district specialist assistance as required.
• Follows district code of conduct and develops classroom rules.
