Job Goal

To help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
  • Guide learning toward achievement of district curriculum goals, communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon supervisor request.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with location and student needs.
  • Strive to implement district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly; provide progress reports and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, correct records per law and district policy.
  • Diagnose learning challenges regularly; seek assistance from district specialists.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, facilities.
  • Follow district code of conduct; develop fair classroom rules.
  • Plan and supervise paraprofessional assignments; provide written evaluations.
  • Maintain ongoing professional growth meeting district requirements.
  • Participate in teacher evaluation process and agree on results.
  • Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and decision‑making.
  • Attend traditional school‑sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House) as agreed.
  • Contribute to district and building decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and well‑being.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
  • Appropriate content and grade‑level licensure: Teacher of Severe or Moderate Disability (PreK‑8) from Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license; or
  • Master’s Degree with appropriate content‑area license at high school level preferred, expected within 5 years.
