Great Oaks Legacy Charter School in Newark, NJ, is seeking dynamic Elementary School Teachers to instruct Pre-K through 4th grade for the 2026-27 academic year. Teachers report to the School Director(s) and work with instructional coaches and Academic Deans to deliver rigorous, college-preparatory instruction.

Ideal candidates hold NJ certification, have a strong commitment to equity, and bring experience in urban No Excuses settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and NJ DOE certification requirements.
• Urban No Excuses school setting experience preferred.
• Strong classroom management abilities.
• Ability to drive student growth.
• Experience developing curriculum preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate solid knowledge and understanding of the content matter.
• Establish, communicate, and demand high expectations for student learning and quality of work.
• Use diverse instructional strategies and activities that are academically rigorous and highly engaging.
• Execute detailed lesson plans mapped to a year-long academic plan to address learning needs.
• Respond to students' learning needs consistently.
• Convey that this work is important and you will not give up on a student.
• Track and analyze student data to identify learning needs and set goals.
• Collaborate with School Director and teachers to revise curriculum based on assessment data.
• Build relationships with students showing care and responsibility for academic and personal growth.
• Maintain an orderly, respectful classroom tone.
• Maximize learning time with a sense of urgency.
• Supervise students during lunch and transitions.
• Enforce school rules and expectations.
• Independently assume additional responsibilities and demonstrate leadership.
• Contact parents regarding successes and challenges.

Education

Bachelor's degree from a competitive college or university. GPA must meet minimum requirements for NJ DOE certification.
