Job summary

Uncommon New York City Charter Schools is seeking a licensed Master’s level Social Worker to provide crisis intervention, counseling, and case management within our elementary school community. The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers, families, and community partners to support student learning, behavior, and attendance while advancing equity and student well-being.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work with licensure (LMSW or LCSW) required.
• Valid NYDOE School Social Worker Certification required.
• Strong commitment to student development and equity in urban schools.
• Proven motivation and ability to collaborate in a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct services to the elementary school community including crisis intervention and behavior management.
• Deliver individual and group counseling (school-based and mandated).
• Identify and train staff to recognize students who may benefit from counseling.
• Develop and implement SEL curricula for students.
• Refer and monitor external resources for students and families.
• Serve as a Case Manager and member of the Child Study Team.
• Strengthen and support parent and family involvement.
• Collaborate with educators to plan school-based interventions.
• Engage with community agencies to support students' learning and well-being.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Attend events outside normal hours and participate in grade-level planning.
